Enrollment Procedures
New family applications are available each year by January and due at our Winter Open House (typically in late January). All new family applications received by this due date will be considered equally and awarded spots in a lottery. New family applications received after the due date will be accepted on a rolling basis. The enrollment process is as follows:
Submit an application online and pay the non-refundable $75 application fee.
New family applications received by the due date will receive an email with either an offer of a spot in a class or on a waitlist by the first week of February. The email will also contain instructions for accepting the offer and paying the enrollment down payment, which is equal to one-tenth annual tuition. Applications received after the due date will receive offer emails within a week of submission.
Applicants will be given a deadline to respond, typically 1-2 weeks, depending on when the application is received.
Once an applicant has accepted their spot and paid the enrollment down payment, their child is officially enrolled in the class.
A detailed registration packet is sent out in late spring with all necessary forms and deadlines, including health and safety forms, teacher information forms, co-oping participation forms, etc.
Returning families will have an opportunity to enroll prior to the new family enrollment period. This is open to both current and alumni families. Details will be provided via email to current families. Alumni families can contact the Membership Chairs at enrollment@knscoop.org for more information. Returning family applications received after the returning family due date will be considered with new families and then as received on a rolling basis.
All enrollment questions and concerns should be directed to the Membership Chairs, not to the teachers.
Criteria for Eligibility
A child will be considered eligible for admittance if they are at least 24 months of age as of September 1 of the year of entrance into the school program and not more than four years 11 months old as of September 1 of the school year in which they are to be enrolled, unless there are special circumstances which will be determined by the parent/guardians, the teacher, and the director of the school. In the The Twos class, the child must be at least 2 by September 1; in the The Threes class, the child must be at least 3 by September 1. In the The Fours class the child must be 4 by September 1. Any exceptions will be at the discretion of the director of the school and the teacher of the class.
KNS happily welcomes all children, which includes but is not limited to children with language and cultural differences; special needs and special health care needs. We provide an inclusive and accepting environment where all children have full access to all components of our program. Children with intellectual or physical disabilities will be admitted to the school in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. If your child has an IFSP or IEP please share it with us so we can best support your child. KNS will collaborate with your child’s services providers and make appropriate adjustments to our schedule, activities and environment to accommodate your child’s needs. Our staff is trained to meet the needs of students with varying special needs. In addition, we are connected with outside community resources for additional support. KNS supports children with their individual toilet training needs. A child does not need to be toilet trained in order to be eligible for admission to KNS.

Class Assignments/Wait Lists
In determining placement for the next year, requests will be granted on a space-available basis. In the event that there are more requests for a class than can be honored, consideration will be given using the priority system listed below.
For current students:
Application received by deadline
Students of current KNS Board Members in good standing
Timely completion of member requirements (see member requirements section)
Years served in school (does not have to be consecutive)
Newly enrolling siblings of current students
Consideration of whether the student was given their first choice of placement in previous years (excluding the family’s first year of enrollment)
If all factors are equal, a lottery system is used
Returning family applications received after the returning family deadline but before the Winter Open House will be considered with the new family lottery. Applications received after the Winter Open House will be accepted on a rolling basis. Once an offer email goes out, families have one week to respond or their class placement may be forfeited.
For alumni students:
Alumni families in good standing will have priority over new families.
For new families:
All new family applications received by the Winter Open House will be considered equally and awarded spots through a lottery. New families who have applied by this deadline will receive an email with either an offer of a spot in a class or on a waitlist by the first week of February. The email will also contain instructions for accepting the offer and paying the enrollment installment, which is equal to one-tenth annual tuition. Applications received after the due date will be accepted on a rolling basis and will receive offer emails within a week of submission. Once an offer email goes out, families have one week to respond or their class placement may be forfeited.

Students will be progressed from one class to the next primarily according to age and in consultation with their parents/guardians and teacher.
